Josepine Allensworth

After the retirement of Col. Allensworth in 1906, he and Josephine made it their mission to found a community that promoted African American land ownership. So, they bought a piece of land that would be named Allensworth, California. This community gave a sense of pride and belonging to the African American community. It was experimental for its time, but it proved to be essential for the advancement of African American culture and influence on a Nation divided by pigmentation.
